Nifty Ideas: In the Shower

Another round of fantastic nifty ideas I have discovered. You too may become inspired by these nifty things and in turn create your own. If you have any of your own nifty ideas please share them with me I'd love to learn about what is nifty to you.

My sensitive and very dry skin has been a lifelong hurdle of finding the best products to use. For years I have been trying various products trying to figure out which ones I like that will not make my skin irritated. Thankfully right about when I thought I'd never find anything I did.

I am such a shower gel nut. I love shower gel. It's the ease of use that I enjoy most. Years ago I discovered the wonderful scents made by Body Shop. I began using their Dewberry shower gel and loved how great it was and fresh it smelled. Then they stopped making it and I had to move on. Not any more it's back and I've been happy to get reacquainted. I recommend their Cocoa Butter creamy body wash it's great for dry winter skin. For the past three years I have been using ShiKai shower gel in Yuzu which has such a fresh citrusy grapefruity scent. I love that their products are soap free and not tested on animals. This gel is an excellent bubble bath too.

For years I had a difficult time shaving because all the chemical filled products I bought at the supermarket made my skin irritated. About 12 years ago I discovered that Kiss My Face Moisture Shave was the solution. I no longer break out in a rash or get super dry skin as a result. It has been a skin saver and I never have to worry about searching for a shaving product again. There are several scents to choose from which is great for altering throughout the year. Still my old standby is the Cool Mint.

During the winter I use Kiss My Face Honey Calendula ultra moisturizer. There are several types of their ultra moisturizers but this scent is the one I prefer. I have been using this product for 12 years and have been pleased with how well it works. In the summer I choose something lighter and I can't get enough of Burt's Bees Baby Bee Buttermilk Lotion. I love the gentle apricot scent and it always reminds me of when the girls were babies. This is the lotion they have been using most of their lives keeping them soft and smelling like my baby bees.

Finding a product for washing my face has been another lifelong search. I wash my face twice a day with a gentle cleanser at night and more robust one for the morning shower. I have tried all sorts of products from the non-organic to organic. So far the only ones that have been great are Aveeno Skin Brightening Daily Scrub and the Clinique line. I use Aveeno several times a week and it's great for keeping my skin clear and soft. I use Clinique's 3 step line for my skin type. In the past I used Burt's Bees, Body Works, and countless others which all have worked great at first but they made my skin break out and could not keep my skin clear.

Shampoo and Conditioner are very important to me. What I need is a shampoo/conditioner pair that is not for colored, damaged, frizzy, dry, oily or in need of volume. It seems easy but it has been so difficult to find a shampoo line that fits my hair type: normal with no need of frills. I have always loved Body Shop Banana shampoo and conditioner and began using it 16 years ago. Like every company they discontinued my favorite product and I had to move on. (But now it's back so yay!) During those years I tried so many terrible products. I have learned that several of the expensive salon brands cause my skin to rash, so they were dumped. (Thanks Redkin, Paul Mitchel and Nexxus) In the past I had been fond of Suave's line but they have dropped the basic care shampoo I used to focus on more specialized hair needs. I like Biolage and use that on occasion, if I can find the one I prefer. So far Pantene has been my go to product line. I use the simple Classic Care formula and it's perfect.

I soo miss the body shop. I have to go to cincy or columbus for the store. It's cheaper if I drive an hour than pay the shipping.
