The end of our summer
One more week of school means there isn't much time left to fit in all that fun. Good for us the next several days are going to be hot which is great for our being at the pool. There are many other things that we want to do. Pick some peaches and raspberries, have sleep overs, have lemonade stands, go on a picnic, and so many more ideas. I think we'll try to get most of that fun squeezed into our week. The pool is at the top of the list for all so I suspect that we'll be making a big effort to swim.
Our school supplies are bought and ready for the first day. On Friday we get to meet the teachers and the buzz is making the girls excited. Leah knows one girl that will be in her class and I can't tell you how excited she is about having a person she knows in class on the first day. Every year Leah has been bummed by not knowing someone would be there with her right off. In the long run it's not a big deal as she always seems to meet some perfect girl but I get the comfort of having a pal in class with you. This year we can't confirm a buddy in Olivia's class. All of her friends are in different classes which is making Olivia worried. Every year since kindergarten she has had someone she knows in with her. The influx of new teachers and several hundred more kids for this year has made for a lot of big changes. Friday will be a good day for figuring out who's where. I think someone she knows will be in her class it's just a person she's thinking about. Just like Leah has done before Olivia will get along with a new person and this school year will not be as big of a bummer as she is imagining.
Keith suggested the girls should write about this summer. It would be a great way for them to recall events of their summer a kids. I too wonder what my typical summer was like when I was young. I don't remember what I did when I was 10 and it would be something for them to look back on as an adult. To know what they did, how they felt, what being 8 and 10 was like as little girls. I've been meaning to remind them to write a little bit, even draw something to represent a significant day. At the every least if I can get a page out of them that would be good. I think I need to put a little reminder out for me to get that last week of summer noted.
The closing of the summer means that this baby will be here soon. We have about 3 weeks to go before the new person will be with us. I have a list of some wish to do things but having it done now or later really isn't going to make much of a difference to me. The hospital bag is ready to go. That's a relief because there is a slim chance that this baby might want to arrive before we have the surgery. With that out of the way I can think of other things to do. The only thing that I want to do is get that basement all cleaned up. I need to have more order in the storage area. All those toys and stuff just is piled up all over. I need the space to stash some of our bulk store products. On the floor is just not working any more. We have several bottles of wine that need a place to go. The wine rack is waiting to be placed and filled. I'll be glad to have a spot for the wine to go as well as a way to see what we have on hand. Currently the wine is in boxes which is fine but makes for quite a chore when I'm searching for a bottle to use or give away. The last thing I want to do is make some jam. This requires plenty of energy. That is something I lack on hot days. I can't see myself making the amount I did last year but maybe a small batch could be put up before month's end. I know I'll be craving that fresh peach jam come this winter. We'll see how it goes. This week will be more for fun and being with the girls.
